vocal & laryngeal PHYSIOTHERAPY
“The human voice is the organ of the soul” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Our Approach
At Bodycentric, vocal physiotherapy contributes a musculoskeletal, movement and rehabilitation perspective to voice care, supporting the physical demands of voice use and performance.
Assessment considers the physical factors that may influence voice production and performance, including muscle tension, laryngeal mobility, movement patterns, breathing mechanics, physical capacity and the demands placed on the individual.
We recognise that voice is not produced by the larynx alone but emerges from the integrated function of the entire body. Our approach considers how the various systems involved in voice and performance work together, with the aim of supporting efficient voice use, recovery and long-term performance longevity.
Vocal Unloading
Vocal unloading is a physiotherapy approach aimed at reducing excessive muscular tension and physical effort associated with voice production. It may be beneficial for individuals experiencing vocal fatigue, throat discomfort, increased effort with speaking or singing, or feelings of tension in the neck, jaw, tongue or laryngeal region.
Vocal unloading may form part of a broader physiotherapy management plan designed to support efficient voice use and meet the physical demands of performance and professional voice use.
Collaborative Care
When appropriate, our physiotherapist works collaboratively with ENT specialists, speech pathologists and vocal coaches to provide comprehensive care for voice users.
Commitment to Best Practice
Dedicated to providing the highest standard of care, we regularly undertake postgraduate education and professional development to ensure our practice reflects current evidence and best-practice management.
